For those seeking to lower blood pressure and/or relieve the pain of arthritis, fibromyalgia, and gout. Wild celery was once highly prized in its native Mediterranean as a folk medicine. Its active compound, known as 3nB, has now been discovered to be effective in lowering blood pressure and relieving arthritis, gout, and fibromyalgia pain. The process by which it can lower blood pressure is in acting both as a diuretic and a vasodilator. In addition, it acts in a manner similar to a calcium-channel blocker. This effect may increase the elasticity of the blood vessels and also lead to lower blood pressure readings. 3nB also appears to promote effects on areas and systems of the brain that control vascular resistance. The benefit of celery extract is its apparent safety. It acts as a diuretic but does not alter the ratio of sodium to potassium in the blood. Also, it does not lower the blood flow to the brain, which means most people feel better when taking it, but has been shown to help prevent stroke in animal studies. It serves to protect the brain and enhance energy production. For relief of joint and muscle pain, one tablet 2-3 times a day is recommended. For gout, 2 tabs 2 times a day is normal. Results are received by continually taking the extract. If stopped, the pain tends to return. Ingredients: Celery (aplum graveolens) seed extract standardized to contain 85% 3-n-butylphthalide calculated as total phtalides) 75 mg. Suggested Use: 1 cap, 2 times per day or as directed by a health professional. Keep out of reach of children. Note: As a precaution, those taking Coumadin (warfarin) should be monitored by a physician. There seem to be no adverse side effects with conventional anti-inflammatory drugs.
