Amoxicillin is an antibiotic, and a type of penicillin. Potassium clavulanate increases its effectiveness against certain bacteria. The combination is used to treat susceptible bacterial infections in many species including dogs, cats, ferrets, and birds. Do NOT use amoxicillin/clavulanate in rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, or hamsters since it will affect the normal bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract and possibly cause a fatal diarrhea.
Dose and Administration:
Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian, and use all of the medication prescribed, or the infection is likely to recur or become worse. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian. May give with food if needed to decrease side effects, such as vomiting.
Tablets should not be split prior to use, because air will cause them to deteriorate. Shake oral liquids well prior to use. Reconstituted oral suspensions should be refrigerated and the remainder discarded in 10 days.
If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not give 2 doses at once.
This medication should only be given to the pet for whom it was prescribed.
Possible Side Effects:
May see lack of appetite, drooling, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Less commonly may see signs of liver disease, including jaundice (yellowing of the gums, skin, or eyes).
Consult your veterinarian if you notice any of the above side effects.
If your pet experiences an allergic reaction to the medication, signs may include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, or coma. If you observe any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately.
Precautions:
Not for use in animals hypersensitive (allergic) to penicillins or beta-lactam antibiotics such as cephalosporins.
Amoxicillin crosses the placenta, and it is advised not to use amoxicillin/clavulanate in pregnant animals although no detrimental results to fetuses have been reported.
Use with caution in very small animals who may be dehydrated or have kidney or heart disorders.
Treatment should not exceed 30 days.
Human Precautions:
People with hypersensitivities (allergies) to penicillins or beta-lactam antibiotics, such as cephalosporins, should not handle the amoxicillin/clavulanate as allergic reactions could occur just from contact.
Drug, Food, and Test Interactions:
Consult your veterinarian before using amoxicillin/clavulanate with vitamins, suppliments, bacteriostatic drugs, such as erythromycin or tetracyclines, and anticoagulants (blood thinners, such as heparin or warfarin), since interactions may occur.
Signs of Toxicity/Overdose:
May see vomiting or diarrhea. Dogs on high doses or long-term use may show signs of incoordination (difficulty walking).
If you know or suspect your pet has had an overdose, or if you observe any of these signs in your pet, contact your veterinarian immediately.
Storage:
Store at room temperature (less than 75°F) in a tight, light resistant, childproof container, protected from moisture (not in the bathroom). Once the oral suspension is reconstituted (the powder is mixed with water), store in the refrigerator and use within 10 days.

Worked well for a bacterial infection, but it turned out that the underlying issue was that our cat had lung cancer. I ended up taking the remaining unopened boxes to the local animal shelter.

An antibiotic of choice in cats
Clavamox is a well tolerated, agreeable tasting broad spectrum penicillin that most animals accept with no problem. I've used it iny cats during or after pregnancy . It is a great drug with a excellent safety profile.

Thank you KV supply
This medication has been prescribed to my pet until the end of his life. He has some urinary issues alone with some other problems. The same size bottle at our vet was nearly $50 and with KV Supply it is $17. Needless to say we have been customers of KV Supply for a few months now. At the beginning, his issues were becoming a financial burden as we tried to do all we could. The prices with KV supply really lightened the load. I believe that if you have the means to help your pet, you should and now my pet is doing well and comfortable in old age. Thank you.

This was my cat's 2nd round of clavamox to clear up an upper respiratory infection. She's stopped sneezing. It did take longer than anticipated to arrive.

Great medication
This is a staple go to antibiotic for felines- it is well tolerated, effective and best of all, they don't mind the taste- making it easy to administer orally or sneak into their food. My cats love the gravy in Friskies shreds (Chicken flavor)- so they consider it a treat when i pop the can squeeze a little of the gravy alone into a saucer and add this medication. All lapped up in seconds.

BEST ANSWER: Yes you do need a prescription from your vet. If your vet will give you one, you can order the product online and they have an option like that the vet will fax a prescription so you dont have to wait and mail in the script. For our cat shelter we get our clavamox from KVVET as vets around here charge $ 28 to $32 a bottle.

As stated in the KV catalog a prescription is required. The product comes in a powder form and requires reconstitution with water. A syringe can be used to draw up the proper volume of water and added. Always shake well before every use to make sure the concentration is uniform. It has a flavor which most pets do not mind.
Yes, you definitely do ned a prescription. When you order it at KV , you must supply your vet's contact information and it is verified with your vet that an antibiotic is needed.

Is this for cough?
BEST ANSWER: depends on what you mean by a cough and why the cat/dog is coughing? how long has he been doing this? are his eyes tearing, nose running, etc.. a cough should be handled by a vet since it can be simple or something very serious. This can be used for a cough, however giving it without knowing what is causing the cough is not a good idea.

Clavamox is a broad spectrum penicillin used for a variety of infections including ear, respiratory, skin, urinary tract.
It's an antibiotic. Your vet should be able to tell you if it'll help your pet's cough.

is this antibiotic good for a bladder infection?
A shopper
on Feb 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It depends on the individual patient. My vet prescribes it as the go-to Rx of choice for a feline UTI, but it might upset the cat's stomach and causing vomiting or loose stools. You can counter that in some cases with a little bit of yogurt. Ultimately, you should consult your veterinarian.
