Why did you choose this?

My vet recommended it for one of my dogs who starts scratching with even a flick of flea dirt (no fleas) - she is so allergic to fleas. While it is expensive, for dogs who are very allergic, this works better then collars or spot ons in my opinion.

VALERIE W on May 20, 2019
I switched to this from the Liquid because it kills them as soon as they bite or there after. That way while in the house if there is a flea on her I know it will die and therefore no flea infestation. I went through that. The main reason why I switched!!

Joanne H on Aug 23, 2018
My border collie is allergic to flea bites. Every year we would struggle with the allergic reactions, even though we were using the flea preventative drops. Every year we had to put her on steroids to clear up her sores from chewing on her bites. She was miserable. This is the first year we have used the Nexgard and this is the first year we have not had to medicate her for the bites. She used to get so sick. Not since we started the new flea meds.

They definitely seem to work, though there is minor GI disturbance, I think, for both my dogs (loose stools) but it definitely kills ticks before they can really even start drawing blood. I found two just starting to attach to my dog's ear and they were quite dead!<br />FDA testing found no serious adverse effects, contrary to claims made by others attempting to cite the FDA reports. Obviously no study is perfect, and every dog is an individual. Every medication comes with risk.

Is NexGard safe any potential After Effects?

BEST ANSWER: Hi there,

As with any medication, there are potential side effects. Per the Manufacturer:

"Cautions:
Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medication, even if a drug interaction may occur. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences unusual reactions when different medications are given together. Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; vomiting; widespread hives and itching.

Side effects:
NexGard is for use in dogs only. The most frequently reported adverse reactions include vomitting, dry/flaky skin, diarrhea, lethargy, and lack of appetite. The safe use of NexGard in pregnant, breeding, or lactating dogs has not been evaluated. Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures."

Hope this helps!
One of my dogs weighs 30 lbs. I am concerned about giving him a dose of pesticide that is almost twice what it should be. Would the lesser dose OR half of a 24.1 - 60 lb dose be effective? I could actually save the other half for the next month.
A shopper on Jul 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi there,

There are many factors that would go into making this decision. I would discuss it with your veterinarian. Good luck!
